1. Introduction
The following document describes the LGA processing software for the Galileo energetic particles detector. It is intended for the EPD programmer/analyst to use in the maintenance of the LGA processing software.
LGAPROC was written in C on a VAX 4000/90 with VMS operating system version 6.1. The processor is designed to be portable to other platforms and system dependent programming is avoided. The processor must make calls to the NAIF SPICE routines; consequently, these must be available to run LGAPROC. Currently, the SPICE routines are called through a package called cfortran.h.

Mission Duration: Galileo was planned to have a mission duration of around 8 years, but was kept in operation for 13 years, 11 months, and 3 days, until it was destroyed in a controlled impact with Jupiter on September 21, 2003.
Destination: Galileo's destination was Jupiter and its moons, which it orbitted for 7 years, 9 months, and 13 days.
